To start the game, Portland sent out a line of Keegan Iverson, Skyler McKenzie and Dominic Turgeon and their mission appeared to physically impose their will on the Raiders. P.A. stood up to the test though and were aided by Portland's top forwards failing to convert some great chances. Tops among these was a sequence where Skyler McKenzie received a pass all alone in front and could not get the puck to lay flat enough to get a solid look. P.A. converted on their chances, opening the scoring with just over 3 minutes left in the period. They took advantage of Iverson being overly aggressive on top of the umbrella and import from the Czech Republic: Simon Stransky made a slick feed to D-man and fellow Czech: Vojtech Budik for the slap shot and his first of the year.
In the second period, P.A. seemed to get into the flow of the play more and Buffalo Sabres 2nd round pick Brendan Guhle, who had just been returned to Junior, was able to sneak the puck past Adin Hill with a wraparound on a nice rush into the zone. Guhle's shot just barely snuck past Hill's left skate and trickled past the line. The goal was Guhle's first, obviously, as this was his first WHL game of the season after injuries in Buffalo got him an extended look. The Raiders were not done in the period though as Tim Vanstone tipped home a Jesse Lees shot on the power play, after Colton Veloso was called for boarding (a call Coach Jamie Kompon heatedly debated with good reason). The goal was team captain: Vantsone's first of the year (catching a theme here?).
Prince Albert then closed out the scoring in the game as Caleb Jones got burned on a give and go by 17 year old Sean Montgomery and 18 year old Dylan Stewart that Stewart converted for his first of the year. All four goals scored by the Raiders were the scorer's firsts of the season.
The shut out was Parenteau's 2nd of his WHL career and only one of the season so far. He stopped all 36 Portland shots in the game, despite coming into the game with a 4.27 GAA. Hill faced 40 P.A. shots and stopped 36.
Portland's power play was 0/3 in the game and now 4/30 (13.3%) on the season (2nd last in the WHL). P.A. was 1/3 on their power plays making Portland's PK now 27/33 or 81.8% on the year (5th best in the WHL).

Game Notes:
-Cody Glass threw a check in the Raider's zone late in the first period and immediately gripped at his arm/shoulder area. He left the ice and did not return the rest of the game. Glass had been having a strong game and the line he was on with Alex Overhardt and Evan Weinger really seemed to be clicking before he left with an injury.

-Portland really seems to be struggling with finish. They are getting to the right areas on the ice and are setting each other up in those prime scoring areas. They just are not converting. Alex Overhardt has been snake bit the most this year, consistently missing the net, flubbing the puck or failing to get a shot through bodies. He led the team in shots this game, but two of those shots, he had a really good look at the net and instead did not get enough wood on the shot to beat Parenteau. The other Hawk who all of sudden cannot finish is Skyler McKenzie. He had just returned to the lineup after missing Sunday's game. McKenzie had the two best looks in the game, but failed to score on either. The first, I mentioned earlier, the second was when Turgeon fed him with a pretty backhand pass in the slot and McKenzie could not even corral the puck to get a shot off. Portland needs McKenzie and Overhardt to start converting these chances. McKenzie has one goal this season and Overhardt has yet to notch a single point.
-Conor MacEachern got into another game and got more ice time in this one. He seemed to struggle with the speed of the game, but I was impressed by his physical play (as evidenced by the 5 hits). His development will be fun to watch as the raw tools appear to be there.
-Keoni Texeira played one of his strongest games, despite the loss. He seems to have figured out how to play aggressively in both ends, but not leave himself out of position. He threw a massive check behind the net in one sequence and consistently pinched at the right moment. His booming slap shot is Portland's top weapon on the power play and he should be getting one past the opponent's goalie soon.
WHL Notables:
-Kamloops finally got their first win Tuesday night, when they beat Red Deer 3-1 behind 31 saves by Conor Ingram.
-Jon Martin scored his WHL leading 10th goal of the year as Swift Current took down Edmonton 4-2.

-Paul Gaustad had an assist (his first point of the year) as Nashville beat New Jersey 3-1.
