Halifax Destroys London 9-2, Advances to at Least the Semi-Final
The Halifax Mooseheads became the first team to advance to at least the semi-final, Tuesday night with a 9-2 demolishing of a tired London squad. London had played the previous night in a loss to Portland.
The win means Halifax ends round robin play with a 2-1 record. If Saskatoon beat Portland tonight, the Blades own the tie-breaker and will automatically advance to the final. If Portland beats Saskatoon tonight, Halifax owns the tie-breaker over Portland and they will advance to the final.
With the loss, 1-2 London clinched a spot in Thursday's tie-breaker game with the loser of the game tonight betweent he Blades and the Hawks.
Martin Frk lead the way for the Mooseheads with 3 goals and 1 assist, as they stormed out to a 5-0 first period lead, chasing starting Goalie Jake Patterson, in favor of backup Anthony Stolarz. He was no better, as he gave up 4 more to the surging QMJHL champs. Depth player Darcy Ashley also contributed 2 goals and an assist, while Nathan Mackinnon and Jonathan Drouin both notched 3 assists.
Zachary Fucale stopped 26 of 28 shots, while Patterson stopped 6 of 11 and Stolarz 22 of 26. The Halifax power play was 2/9 and is now 4/20 in the tournament. London was 0/4 and is now 2/13 in the tournament.
