London, lead by 17 year old, 6'6" 229 Lb. D-man Nikita Zadorov's 3rd period power play goal, squeeked past the WHL's Saskatoon Blades 3-2. London also got goals from Center Brett Welychka and a goal and an assist from Right Wing Seth Griffith. Both of Saskatoon's goals were scored by regular season 47 goal scorer Josh Nicholls.
London now carries a 1-0 record into back to back matchups with Portland and Halifax on Monday and Tuesday, while the host Blades are 0-1 and play Halifax on Sunday and Portland on Wednesday of next week.
Saskatoon's streak of playoff games lost now reaches 5 over a span of almost 2 months. Andrey Makarov stopped 30 of 33 shots, while London's Anthony Stolarz stopped 27 of 29. London was 1/6 on the power play and Saskatoon was 0/2.
Random Note:
-Refereeing in tonight's games was WHL veteran Regan Vetter who is known by Hawk's fans as the guy that cost them a game in their 2011 WHL Final with Kootenay when he called 8 first period penalties on them.
